シブヤカバンは、岡山県英田郡西粟倉村影石に拠点をおいている革製品のアトリエ兼工房です。あわくら温泉元湯からはあるいて30秒ほどのところにあります。代表の渋谷肇さんは、牛革や豚革、鹿革、ワニ革など多様な革を用いて、一つひとつ手作業で製品を制作する革職人です。 ​

渋谷さんは、30歳のときに趣味だったレザークラフトを本格的に生業にすることを決意しました。​岡山県に移住し、約1年で独立を果たしました。​その後、西粟倉村で獣害駆除のために捕獲された鹿の革が有効活用されず廃棄されている現状を知り、鹿革の製品作りに取り組むため、2018年4月に西粟倉村に拠点を移しました。

工房では、カバンだけでなく、財布や小物入れ、帽子、犬の首輪など多彩な革製品を制作しています。​​また、製品作りの過程で生じる革の端切れも無駄にせず、活用方法を常に考えている背景も知っていただきたいポイントです。​

Shibuya Kaban is a leather goods atelier and workshop located in Kageseki, Nishiawakura Village, Aida District, Okayama Prefecture. It is about a 30-second walk from Awakura Onsen Motoyu.
The owner, Hajime Shibuya, is a leather craftsman who handcrafts each item using a variety of leathers, including cowhide, pigskin, deerskin, and crocodile leather.

At the age of 30, Shibuya decided to turn his hobby of leather crafting into a full-time profession. He moved to Okayama Prefecture and became independent within about a year. Later, he learned about the situation in Nishiawakura Village, where the hides of deer captured for wildlife control were being discarded without being put to use. Determined to make use of these materials, he relocated his base to Nishiawakura Village in April 2018 to start working with deerskin.

At the workshop, Shibuya Kaban produces a wide variety of leather items, not just bags, but also wallets, pouches, hats, dog collars, and more. They also accept custom orders and create products tailored to customers’ requests. An important aspect of their work is the commitment to minimizing waste — even scraps of leather left over from the production process are thoughtfully repurposed.
